Oh what a tangled web we weave...because yeah, telling the insurance investigator lies is definitely a mess! I don't agree with the reviews that disdain the story saying it prominently displays a "rape culture" because quite frankly, Tammy may be saying no but she is telegraphing "yes!" even in her own mind. Eve Langlais is a fantastic writer that doesn't leave you guessing. She builds her worlds and characters like family and friends. Most of us will be able to identify with the situations and the responses. For those who have never said no when they wanted to say yes or when they meant yes, please know, most of us are not absolute...the world isn't black and white to us, there are in fact more than 50 shades of grey. 😉
Check it out for yourself! I for one thought it was a great start to another fangfreakingtastic Eve Langlais series and can't wait until I can afford to purchase the rest of the books!!
This was a really fun, quick read that takes a city girl and dumps her into the middle of nowhere. In this world, shifters are hidden, but able to exist in their remote communities, ruled by one surly bear. Said bear is, unfortunately, being targeted for some unknown reason, his trucks being taken, drivers kidnapped or killed, and basically costing him a lot of headache (and money).
Tammy is the insurance rep tasked with looking into the missing trucks claim and she gets way more than she bargained for. On the trip to her hotel she finds her truck ambushed, getting a dart to the neck, and waking up in a stranger's house. Reid, the head bear in charge, finds himself inexplicably drawn to Tammy but fights it like a fool.
There were definitely some stand out side characters in this story that sets up a nice, solid series. After a twisty, turny path towards a HEA for Tammy and Reid, I would eagerly gobble up the rest of the books in this world. I love the feisty/stubborn combination in these paranormal romances!
I'm not going to rehash the blurb for you here because you can read it for yourself and know what the book is about. I will say this is a great first novel for this series and I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. I rarely found myself bored with any one scene in here and the action kept moving. Tamara is a fiesty, straight shooter of a girl who tells you exactly what she thinks and has no qualms about telling you to go screw yourself if you don't love her exactly the way she is, curves and all. Sassy heroine against big bad oh-so-sexy bear shifter who won't take no for an answer?? Yeah, the fireworks fiy as well as the buckshots (LOL!). If you love shifters of all kinds (this series has them), you'll love this one. This first one introduces you to all the other heroes that live in Kodiak Point so be sure to pay attention. Give it a try while it's free for now and I think you'll like it. For me, personally, I would have preferred sticking with one species of shifter, but that's just me. Shouldn't stop you from reading this first one. I found it very enjoyable otherwise
I wish I could like the story. It's already established in the first few pages that Tammara is a curvaceous woman who had ex bf's that insisted she could lose a few pounds. It is also pointed out so many times that she likes food so reader obviously gets it. I really did try to keep reading but the writer just kept repeating how insecure our heroine is that it just got so annoying that the story itself was overshadowed that I couldn't continue reading.
Reid Carver meets his match when Tammy, an insurance adjuster comes to his town to investigate his insurance claims of losing three trucks and their load. Reid is the Alpha of Kodiak Clan and runs Kodiak Point town. Tammy makes Reid break his own rules that he would put someone in their place to break his rules and disobey him. Reid finds out that Tammy is curvy strong women that his inner bear cannot resist and wants to make her his even though he is a shifter and she is human. She defends herself with frying pan and can shot a gun when being under attack. Reid figures no string attached fling with Tammy will be fine even though he is a bear shifter and she is just human. He makes it very clear to Tammy that nothing more will ever come out of this fling. He will only mate with his own kind and for politics reason to make his clan stronger. Reid has different thoughts when Tammy is taking from him as a hostage. His inner bear has decided for him that Tammy will not being leaving his town and he will claim her as his mate since he is the Alpha and does not care what anyone else thinks. You will have to read the book to find out if Reid and Tammy can find their happy ending. You will not be disappointed. Can't wait to read Jan and Boris story next.
